"Red Hook Raider Forever"
Lt. Joseph Gullickson of Ladder 101 in Red Hook sacrificed his life while performing his duty for the FDNY on September 11, 2001 at the WTC. Joseph was a firefighter for fourteen years and was well respected among his fellow firefighters. Captain Tom Giordano said, "Joe was an exceptional officer, always learning, always teaching, and, above all, always looking out for his men. This was a man dedicated to his job and totally devoted to his family. I am proud to call Joe a brother, a hero, a friend."
The Maverick Foundation is a privately run and managed non-profit organization that presently offers "The Gullickson-McGuire Memorial Scholarship" which is a full scholarship to Moore Catholic for a special student that embraces the values and character of Joseph Gullickson and Daniel McGuire, a co-captain of the Moore Catholic Track Team who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident in 1976. We are looking for that special young adult who is willing to get involved, make a difference, and understands that the essence of life is helping others. The winner is challenged to set and achieve goals in the areas of volunteer work, personal development, and physical activity utilizing The Congressional Award Program as a guide. Visit our website at www.themaverickfoundation.com.
Congratulations to Our 2002 Scholarship Winner Danielle McLaughlin!
